Athos
is owned and operated by Captain & Pilot Julian
Farrant and his wife, Dannielle. Julian is a hotel-barging
veteran, and has been cruising on the Canal du
Midi with Athos for 21 years (who’s counting!?)
Dannielle began onboard in 1997, and together
they bought the barge in 2005 . Under Julian’s
direction, the Athos underwent a complete transformation
during the winter of 2006. All of the cabins and
ensuite baths were entirely renovated and rebuilt
to bring them up to the fresh standard they are
today. The overhaul also included changes on the
outside of the barge which enhanced Athos’
best and most-used feature: her spacious top deck.
Having been involved in the Athos’ daily
running for these past 2 decades, Dannielle &
Julian pride themselves on presenting a refined
and well-tended product. Their interest is in
creating holidays that will be remembered because
of the special personal care that Athos crew commits
to each passenger, the beautiful and rustic countryside
which surrounds Athos on the Canal du Midi, and
the exclusive setting provided by the diligently
cared-for Athos.

Fandango
was built in 1939 specifically to the dimensions
of the locks and low stone arch bridges of the
Canal du Midi. Abandoned near Bordeaux in the
1970's when highways took over barge freight,
owner Hazel Young convinced the Provencal cosmetics
company L'Occitane to restore her as the historical
flagship of the Canal and a glamorous floating
showroom. Fandango returned to the Midi in 1998
to become a luxurious private charter barge for
4 to 6 passengers.

Le
Papillon
is an historic canal boat, skillfully and imaginatively
converted to a floating hotel, cruising the tranquil
canals and rivers of France. Each Sunday between
April and November, Le Papillon sets sail for
a private charter with just
six passengers and four crew.
Like a fine wine or a good meal, this is a vacation
to be savoured slowly.
Leave behind the hurried humdrum and sit back
and share the pleasure of anticipation - the one
thing we don’t do is rush.
Of course that means there’s plenty of time
for a chilled glass of champagne before the next
lock or village. And time to remember what you
did yesterday and the day before without the whirlwind
itineraries so typical of modern tourism.
